Travel Guide

About Varanasi Package

Varanasi sits at the centre of a pilgrimage circuit that's closer than it looks: Sarnath in 10 to 12 km, Prayagraj in 120 to 125 km, Ayodhya in 200 km, Vindhyachal in 75 to 80 km. A 2 day Varanasi package covers the essentials. A 7 day package lets you see all four.
Rated 4.9 on Google by travelers who've actually made the trip.

  • Best time to go: November to February
  • Shortest package that works: 2 days
  • Full circuit package: up to 7 days
  • Varanasi tour packages 2026: starting from Rs 2,499 per person

Stand on the ghats once while the city wakes up at five in the morning. Boats creak past thousands of floating oil lamps, temple bells overlap with a dozen different aartis, and the sky turns turmeric and marigold over the Ganga. People have been showing up for exactly this for three thousand years. A good Varanasi tour package treats this city as an event, not a checkbox.

Every package here covers the planning that actually matters, no hidden extras: the right ghat for sunrise, temple entry sorted out in advance, Ganga Aarti timing worked out, and Sarnath, Ayodhya or Prayagraj built into the days without a scramble. We are a Varanasi based tour operator, on the ground here since 2021, not a booking desk routing your enquiry to whichever vendor happens to be free that day. Our team knows the lanes, the darshan timings and the ghat logistics that only someone who actually lives here would.

Below: how many days you need, where each circuit takes you, and a full comparison of our packages, so you land on a trip built around how you actually want to travel.

Why Book a Varanasi Tour Package

You will still need to plan your days a little, package or no package. The Ganga Aarti and the sunrise boat ride happen at fixed times, entry into the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor follows its own separate process, and getting to Sarnath without a plan can quietly eat half a day. A packaged tour's real value is that someone has already worked all of this out for you. You just have to show up.

There is also the matter of the old city itself, where the lanes were built for feet and handcarts, not cars. Knowing where to park, where to walk instead, and where to pick up a boat rather than a rickshaw matters more here than in most Indian cities, especially for first time visitors, and especially for families or pilgrims travelling on to other sites across Uttar Pradesh. For all of that, booking a Varanasi pilgrimage, travel or holiday package usually beats trying to piece it together yourself. Someone who actually lives here has already figured it out.

Why Plan Your Varanasi Trip With Us

Hotel and pickup coordination, drivers, boat rides and Ganga Aarti arrangements are handled by the same team that plans the itinerary, so if timings shift or something needs adjusting on the ground, you are dealing with people who already know your trip, not a new contact every time you call. Every Varanasi tour package we build reflects what actually works day to day in this city, not just what reads well on a price list.

Send a query on WhatsApp or by phone and you will hear back from a real person, usually within 24 hours. If a package does not fit your dates, group size or pace exactly, we will build one that does, rather than asking you to fit yourself into a fixed template. Our team is based at The Mall Road, Cantonment, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh 221002.

What is included in most Varanasi trip packages

  • Accommodation for the number of nights in the itinerary
  • Airport, railway station or bus stand pickup and drop
  • Private or shared vehicle for local sightseeing and transfers between cities on circuit packages
  • A sightseeing itinerary covering the core ghats, temples and Sarnath
  • Assistance with Ganga Aarti viewing and, on many packages, a sunrise boat ride

What is usually excluded, unless stated on the specific package

  • Flights or long distance train tickets to and from Varanasi
  • Temple donation amounts, VIP darshan fees, or optional boat ride upgrades
  • Meals beyond what is specified, since many packages are room only or breakfast only
  • Personal shopping, tips and monument entry tickets not listed in the itinerary

Always ask for a written inclusion and exclusion list before booking. It is the single most useful thing to check, since two similarly priced packages can differ a lot in what they actually cover. If you would rather run the numbers yourself first, our Varanasi trip cost guide for 2026 breaks down real per person spending across stay, food, transport and boat rides.

How Many Days Do You Need for a Varanasi Trip?

This is the first real decision, and it shapes everything else about the trip.

2 Days: Varanasi

One evening Ganga Aarti, one sunrise boat ride, Kashi Vishwanath Temple, and a walk through the ghats and old city lanes, that is genuinely all you need. A short city tour or a stopover on the way to somewhere else works well for this. It is tight, but it makes a solid weekend trip. See the 2 Days Varanasi Tour Package for the full itinerary.

3 to 4 Days: Varanasi With One Nearby Circuit

With three days in Varanasi you can add Sarnath without rushing, covered in the 3 Days Varanasi Tour Package. Four days is usually when people bring in one neighbouring destination. Prayagraj for the Triveni Sangam is the most popular add on, though Chitrakoot or Ayodhya work just as well. Choose from the 4 Days Varanasi Prayagraj Package, the Varanasi, Prayagraj and Chitrakoot Package, or the Varanasi, Prayagraj and Ayodhya Package.

5 to 6 Days: Two or More Destinations

This is the range that most complete pilgrimage circuits fit into best, without back to back travel days. It works equally well for a family holiday or a more focused pilgrimage trip. See the Varanasi and Ayodhya Package, the Varanasi, Prayagraj and Ayodhya Package, the Varanasi, Ayodhya, Naimisharanya and Lucknow Package, the Varanasi, Prayagraj, Chitrakoot and Ayodhya Package, or the Varanasi, Prayagraj, Ayodhya and Naimisharanya Package.

7 or More Days: The Complete Uttar Pradesh Pilgrimage Circuit

If you want to see Varanasi and several nearby pilgrimage sites in one trip, without long tiring drive days, set aside at least a week. Options include the Varanasi, Prayagraj, Ayodhya and Lucknow Package, the Varanasi, Prayagraj, Chitrakoot and Ayodhya Package, the Varanasi, Prayagraj, Chitrakoot, Ayodhya and Naimisharanya Package, and the Varanasi, Ayodhya, Mathura and Vrindavan Package. For the longest circuit, the 11 Days Complete Uttar Pradesh Darshan Tour Package covers the state's most significant pilgrimage sites in one trip.

Travelling from Lucknow and want a shorter, more condensed circuit covering Naimisharanya, Ayodhya, Prayagraj and Chitrakoot, skipping Varanasi entirely? The comparison table below covers those options too, including the 3 Days Lucknow Naimisharanya Tour Package and the 4 Days Lucknow, Naimisharanya and Ayodhya Package.

A Sample 2-Day Varanasi Itinerary

Talking about durations only goes so far. Here is what a real Varanasi trip package looks like on the ground, using the flagship 2 day itinerary as the example.

Day 1 - Arrival and check in by early afternoon, followed by a walk through the old city lanes between Godaulia and Dashashwamedh Ghat, past flower stalls, sweet shops and narrow gali crowds. Evening is reserved for the Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat, either from the steps, arriving 30 to 45 minutes early to hold a spot, or from a boat on the river for a quieter view.

Day 2 - Up before sunrise, on the water by 5:00 to 5:30 AM for the boat ride past the ghats as the city wakes, pilgrims taking their morning dip, priests beginning rituals, the first light on the water. Back on land for Kashi Vishwanath Temple darshan, carry a valid photo ID, then a short walk through the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor back toward the ghats before checkout.

Plan Ahead

Best Time to Visit Varanasi

Winter morning at Dashashwamedh Ghat, Varanasi Nov – Feb

Winter

November to February

Temperatures range from 5 to 20 degrees Celsius, the weather is clear, and this is the most comfortable stretch for a sunrise boat ride or an evening aarti. It is also the most crowded season, with busy temples, packed ghats and festival season in full swing. Dev Deepawali, around Kartik Purnima, draws the biggest crowds of the year.

Summer afternoon near Sarnath, Varanasi Apr – Jun

Summer

April to June

Summer runs hot, past 40 degrees most afternoons, so early morning and late evening are your windows for outdoor sightseeing. The upside is that this is the off season, and the usual crowds thin out considerably at the major attractions.

Monsoon season along the Ganga, Varanasi Jul – Sep

Monsoon

July to September

The monsoon fills the Ganges and turns the surroundings lush and green, though sudden downpours can rearrange your plans without much notice.

The Circuit

Places to Visit in Varanasi: Ghats, Temples and Day Trips

1 Dashashwamedh Ghat, Varanasi

Dashashwamedh Ghat

This is where the evening Ganga Aarti happens, and it is the busiest, loudest, most photographed stretch of riverfront in the city. Priests move in perfect unison with bells, conch shells and rows of oil lamps, and by the time the ceremony peaks the crowd on the steps is standing shoulder to shoulder. If that sounds like too much, watch it instead from a boat a little further out on the Ganga, quieter, and arguably a better view of the whole choreography at once. For exact daily timings, see our Ganga Aarti timing guide.

  • LocationMain riverfront, central Varanasi
  • TimingsGanga Aarti begins around sunset, roughly 6:00 to 7:00 PM depending on season
  • Entry FeeFree to watch from the steps; boat viewing is paid
  • Nearby AttractionsKashi Vishwanath Temple, Manikarnika Ghat, the old city lanes
2 Assi Ghat, Varanasi

Assi Ghat

At the southern end of the main riverfront, mornings here are close to silent compared to Dashashwamedh in the evening. Boatmen call out for early riders, a few people are doing yoga on the steps, and the sunrise boat rides mostly launch from here. If Dashashwamedh is Varanasi at full volume, Assi Ghat is Varanasi at a whisper.

  • LocationSouthern end of the ghats, near BHU
  • TimingsBest visited at sunrise, roughly 5:00 to 6:30 AM
  • Entry FeeFree; boat rides are paid
  • Nearby AttractionsBanaras Hindu University, Tulsi Ghat
3 Manikarnika Ghat, Varanasi

Manikarnika Ghat

One of the city's active cremation ghats, and a place that demands a different kind of attention than the rest of the riverfront. Rituals continue here around the clock, and this is not a photo stop. Keep a respectful distance, do not photograph, and treat it as what it is: a place of worship and mourning, not a sightseeing checkbox.

  • LocationCentral riverfront, north of Dashashwamedh Ghat
  • TimingsActive throughout the day and night
  • Entry FeeNone; photography is not appropriate here
  • Nearby AttractionsDashashwamedh Ghat, the old city lanes
4 Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Varanasi

Kashi Vishwanath Temple

The spiritual centre of the city and one of the twelve Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva. The Kashi Vishwanath Corridor now links the temple directly to the Ganga ghats, a far more organized walk than the old approach through the lanes. Entry requirements, darshan timings and queues can change during festivals and peak travel periods. Carry a valid photo ID and check the latest arrangements before you go. Check our Varanasi temple timings guide before you lock in your itinerary, so you are not standing outside a closed gate.

  • LocationOld city, connected to the ghats via the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor
  • TimingsGenerally open from early morning until late evening, with a midday closure for rituals; check before you go
  • Entry FeeFree general darshan; paid options exist for faster entry
  • Nearby AttractionsDashashwamedh Ghat, Kashi Vishwanath Corridor market
5 Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple, Varanasi

Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple

Dedicated to Lord Hanuman, and noticeably calmer than the central riverfront. Devotees visit throughout the day for prayers and aarti, and it is a good stop if you want a temple visit without the Kashi Vishwanath crowds.

  • LocationNear Banaras Hindu University, south Varanasi
  • TimingsOpen early morning to late evening
  • Entry FeeFree
  • Nearby AttractionsAssi Ghat, Banaras Hindu University
6 Kal Bhairav Temple, Varanasi

Kal Bhairav Temple

Kal Bhairav is regarded as the guardian deity of Kashi, and this temple rounds out the city's temple circuit for pilgrims who want to go beyond Kashi Vishwanath alone.

  • LocationVishweshwarganj, old city
  • TimingsOpen early morning to evening
  • Entry FeeFree
  • Nearby AttractionsKashi Vishwanath Temple, old city market lanes
7 Sarnath, near Varanasi

Sarnath

About 10 to 12 km from central Varanasi and one of India's most important Buddhist pilgrimage sites, traditionally where the Buddha gave his first sermon after enlightenment. Dhamek Stupa, the Ashoka Pillar, the Sarnath Museum and a handful of monasteries sit in grounds quiet enough to feel like a different city entirely, a real change of pace from the ghats. It fits comfortably into half a day.

  • Location10 to 12 km from central Varanasi
  • TimingsArchaeological site generally open sunrise to sunset; museum keeps separate, shorter hours and is closed one day a week, check before visiting
  • Entry FeePaid entry to the museum and main stupa grounds
  • Nearby AttractionsDhamek Stupa, Ashoka Pillar, Sarnath Museum
8 Ramnagar Fort, Varanasi

Ramnagar Fort

Across the Ganga from the city, this was the historic residence of Varanasi's former Maharajas. Its museum holds royal artefacts, vintage cars, weapons and manuscripts.

  • LocationEast bank of the Ganga, opposite the main ghats
  • TimingsGenerally open daytime hours; check before visiting
  • Entry FeePaid entry
  • Nearby AttractionsViews across the Ganga to the main ghats
9 Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi

Banaras Hindu University (BHU)

One of the largest residential universities in Asia and an important cultural landmark in its own right. Walk the expansive campus and see landmarks like Bharat Kala Bhavan and the New Vishwanath Temple.

  • LocationSouth Varanasi, near Assi Ghat
  • TimingsCampus is generally accessible during the day; Bharat Kala Bhavan keeps separate museum hours
  • Entry FeeFree to walk the campus; museum entry may be paid
  • Nearby AttractionsAssi Ghat, Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple
10 Vindhyachal, near Varanasi

Vindhyachal

Roughly 75 to 80 km from Varanasi, an important pilgrimage destination dedicated to Goddess Vindhyavasini, and better suited to longer pilgrimage circuits than a short Varanasi only trip.

  • Location75 to 80 km from Varanasi
  • TimingsTemple generally open early morning to evening
  • Entry FeeFree
  • Nearby AttractionsGanga riverfront at Vindhyachal, nearby Kali Khoh and Ashtabhuja temples

Things to Do in Varanasi

1

Take a Sunrise Boat Ride on the Ganga

This is the one thing almost every visitor does, and for good reason. Boats set out from Assi Ghat or Dashashwamedh Ghat before sunrise, gliding past the riverfront as the city wakes up, pilgrims taking their morning dip, priests beginning rituals, and the first light catching the temple spires. It is quiet in a way the same stretch of river never is by mid-morning.

Best time: Just before sunrise, roughly 5:00 to 6:30 AM

Duration: 45 minutes to 1 hour

Cost: Shared boats are inexpensive; private boats cost more and can be negotiated

Where to start: Assi Ghat or Dashashwamedh Ghat

2

Watch the Evening Ganga Aarti

The Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat is a fixed part of the day, priests moving in unison with bells, conch shells and rows of oil lamps, and a crowd packed shoulder to shoulder on the steps by the time it peaks. If you would rather skip the crowd, watching from a boat a little further out gives a quieter, arguably better view of the whole performance.

Best time: Just after sunset, roughly 6:00 to 7:00 PM depending on season

Duration: About 45 minutes

Cost: Free from the steps; boat viewing is paid

Where: Dashashwamedh Ghat

3

Walk the Old City Lanes

Between Godaulia and Dashashwamedh Ghat, the lanes narrow into a maze of flower stalls, sweet shops, silk showrooms and centuries-old buildings leaning into each other overhead. There is no real route to follow here, getting a little lost is most of the point.

Best time: Late afternoon or early evening, when the lanes are busy but not overwhelming

Duration: 1 to 2 hours

Cost: Free to walk; shopping is separate

4

Visit Kashi Vishwanath Temple

One of the twelve Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva, and the spiritual centre of the city. The Kashi Vishwanath Corridor now connects the temple directly to the ghats, a far more organized approach than the old lanes route.

Best time: Early morning for shorter queues

Duration: 30 minutes to 1 hour, longer during festivals

Cost: Free general darshan; paid options exist for faster entry

What to carry: A valid photo ID

5

Try Varanasi's Street Food

Kachori sabzi for breakfast, tamatar chaat on a street corner, and thandai or the city's famous paan to finish. Varanasi's food is built around small stalls that have been doing one thing well for generations, more than sit-down restaurants.

Best time: Morning for breakfast items, evening for chaat and sweets

Cost: Street food here is inexpensive by design

Where: Old city lanes near Godaulia and around Vishwanath Gali

6

Shop for Banarasi Silk

Varanasi has been a centre for silk weaving for centuries, and Banarasi sarees, woven with real gold and silver thread in traditional designs, are the city's best known craft. Small family-run showrooms in the old city are worth visiting even if you are not buying, just to see the weaving process explained.

Best time: Daytime, when showrooms are open and less rushed

Cost: Varies widely by design and material

Where: Old city lanes, particularly around Chowk and Godaulia

7

Take a Day Trip to Sarnath

About 10 to 12 km from the city, Sarnath is where the Buddha is traditionally believed to have given his first sermon after enlightenment. The Dhamek Stupa and the quiet grounds around it are a real change of pace from the density of the ghats.

Best time: Morning, before the afternoon heat

Duration: Half a day

Cost: Paid entry to the museum and main stupa grounds

8

Visit Banaras Hindu University (BHU)

One of the largest residential universities in Asia, with a campus worth walking even if you have no academic reason to. Bharat Kala Bhavan, the university's art and archaeology museum, and the New Vishwanath Temple are the two main stops inside.

Best time: Daytime

Duration: 1 to 2 hours

Cost: Free to walk the campus; museum entry may be paid

Where: South Varanasi, near Assi Ghat

9

Watch a Classical Music or Dance Performance

Varanasi has a long tradition in Hindustani classical music, and small venues around the ghats and old city occasionally host evening performances of vocal music, sitar or kathak. It is worth asking locally or checking listings for what is on during your stay, since performances are not always fixed or advertised in advance.

Best time: Evening

Cost: Varies by venue

10

Take a Cycle Rickshaw Through the City

Rather than a car, a cycle rickshaw through the old city or along the riverfront road gives a slower, closer view of daily life here, tea stalls, temple entrances, cows in the road, all at a pace you can actually take in.

Best time: Cooler parts of the day, morning or evening

Cost: Inexpensive, agree on a fare before starting

Travel Type

Varanasi Packages for Your Travel Type

Solo Tour Packages

Travelling alone gives you the freedom to explore Varanasi at your own pace. A 2 or 3-day package works well for a short solo trip covering the main ghats, temples, Ganga Aarti, sunrise boat ride and Sarnath. If you have a little more time, a 4-day Varanasi and Prayagraj trip gives you a chance to explore two important spiritual cities without rushing between destinations.

Recommended Packages

Family Tour Packages

Travelling with children or seniors usually means a slower, more relaxed itinerary, with some rest built in after the sunrise boat ride and between the bigger temple visits. If you are weighing Varanasi holiday packages for a family trip, a 3 to 7 day itinerary can give you more flexibility to balance sightseeing with enough downtime.

Recommended Packages

Couple Tour Packages

For a shorter, focused trip, a 2 or 3-day Varanasi package covers the essentials, including Ganga Aarti, a sunrise boat ride, and the old city lanes, without stretching into a longer multi-city circuit. It's a good fit for couples who want a compact spiritual and cultural experience with enough time to enjoy the city together.

Quick Guide

Choose Your Varanasi Trip by Time & Travel Plans

Comparing Varanasi packages side by side usually comes down to two things: how many days you have, and how many destinations you want to fit in.

Have 2 to 3 days and want Varanasi only?

Choose the 2 day Varanasi tour package or the 3 day Varanasi tour package.

Have 4 days and want one extra destination?

Consider Prayagraj, Chitrakoot or Ayodhya through the 4 day combination package.

Have a week or more and want to see most of the region?

The 7 day circuit packages covering four destinations are built for this.

Want full flexibility?

Send a query about a private, customised itinerary rather than a fixed package.
